LSDM: The cost of living has increased by 40,000 denars, energy costs warned

Maja Serafimovska Borozan of LSDM has warned that further electricity prices and central heating in northern Macedonia are expected by next year.

She criticised Hristian Mickoski’s government for lack of action, saying other European countries are already taking steps to cope with increased energy costs.

According to Serafimovska Borozani, the cost of living for citizens has increased for 4,000 denars from January, while the minimum union basket in October has exceeded 70 thousand denars. When the rent is involved, the cost amounts to about 90 thousand denarius.

She stressed that wages are not following the expensive pace and that the standard of living remains at about a third of the European Union’s level.

Referring to economic research, the LSDM representative said the country would take 52 years to reach the EU average in prosperity.

Serafimovska Borozan also said around 180 thousand workers receive less than 3,200 denars per month, while the minimum wage remains at 26 thousand denars.
