Nico Williams, the 24-year-old side attacker, has returned to the spotlight following recent news from Athletic Bilbao, as it has emerged as one of Paris’s main targets Saint-Germain to strengthen their attack in the transitional deadline of January 2027. Kreturcha Kvaratskhelia’s serious injury has accelerated the search for a replacement, and the French club has renewed its interest in the Spanish repretant, whose release clause is about 90m euros.
Paris Saint-Germain is considering the possibility of transfer in the winter term, after losing Kvaratskhelian because of a break in the cross-interial league on the right knee. The Georgian player was injured on October 20th during the Champions League match against Barcelona and will have to be operated.
Enrique must find solutions to cover the lack of Kvaratskhelia, which is expected to lose the rest of the season. Moreover, Ousmane Deblee also suffered a muscle damage against Barcelona and will be missing for several weeks.
The coach currently has options, such as Desert Doue, Maghhes Akliouche and Mika Godts. However, the sports director is considering the possibility of bringing another assailant to face the second half of the season.
According to the medium EurosportNico Williams is one of the candidates being reviewed by the Parisian club. Annanor was already on the SPG radar in 2024, an interest his agent, Felix Tainta, recently confirmed.
Williams’ ability to play on both sides and create one-on-one situations fits the team’s needs. His international experience and seasons in La League also strengthen his candidacy.
The main obstacle to finalising the signing of Nico Williams is his situation with the contract. The attacker renewed his contract with Athletic Bilbaon in July 2025, extending his stance until June 30th, 2035.
This renovation also increased its release clause by about 50%, from the previous 60m euros to about 90m euros. This situation forces the SPG to consider an important investment if it aims to persuade Bilbaon to separate from one of their main players during the passing winter deadline.
The decision to renew the contract came after Williams joined clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich. His continued presence at the club was a deliberate choice by the player, who decided to continue his career in San Mames.
PSG reviewing additional possibilities for January
Williams is not the only name on Paris Saint-Germain radar. Ibrahim Maza, 20-year-old midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen, and Mathis Albert, the 17-year-old attacker from Borussia Dortmund, are also among the options mentioned by the European press.
The French club also has the opportunity to include a player from League 1 or League 2 before January through the yoker rule, though this exception would not allow them to sign directly with the Atlantic Bilbaos player.
Therefore, any attempt by the SPG to sign with Nico Williams will have to wait until the opening of the passing deadline of January 2027. The next step will be to see whether Enrice and the sports director have priority of signing him and submit a capable offer to open negotiations with the Athletic Bilbaon. /Telegraphy/
