After Vuciqi’s fall, Serbian public television apologises for propaganda, unilateral reporting

Public television of Serbia, RTS, has launched Thursday evening’s central news edition with a message of apology to audiences, acknowledging that in the past period it has not fulfilled its mission properly and promising changes in reporting.

This is the first step towards RTS recovery and a first step of apology for everything left out in the past period. There is much work in programming content, always in public interest. We want to restore your faith, said the message read by the host on behalf of the new news editor.

The apology came after the decision by Information Programme editor Borivoje Uskokovic to dismiss eight television editors.

The changes to RTS followed the resignation of general director Manja Grciq on October 28th. Her letter of resignation was read the following day during the second news edition.

Developments on Serbian public television come in a period of change in the country’s media and political scene, following constant criticism of RTS and other television reports on unilateral reporting and in favour of Aleksandar Vucinqi’s power.
