Police pensions continue to be unacceptable

PThe police officials’ initiatives continue to be unconventional, so the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance seek dignified treatment.

To improve the working conditions, PDK deputy Besa Kabashi-Ramaj — in a talk about Online Economy — vows that she will continue to insist that security personnel be treated with dignity, including not only basic working conditions, but also vital and health protection and post-retirement treatment.

Even in this mandate, I will continue to insist that a safe state is a state where security and protection personnel are dignified, from the most technical issues you mention, to the clothing, to the extra hours and so forth, to the very important and key to doing the job properly. In the face of the threat on daily grounds, it is health insurance and life insurance, but beyond that also forms of how they are treated after retirement, Kabashi-Ramaj said.

She has estimated that even police pensions should be treated as urgent issues, citing their level as unrecognisable. According to her, there should be proper treatment for members of intelligent service after retirement.

We know very well that pensions for the Kosovo Republic Police are unrecognizable and should be addressed as soon as possible. Of course, the forms of how all in intelligent service are treated should also be addressed because after retirement from intelligent service, these workers who have served the country so zealously must be treated with dignity and should not potentially fall prey to the enemies of the country, it has stated.

Kabashi-Ramaj has added that commitment to improving the conditions of security and defence personnel will be among the issues to which it will also cost importance in this mandate, along with the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

So, as I said, both in my career and in my past mandate, even in this mandate, it will cost not only as deputies, but we as the PDK will devote tremendous importance to the security and defence sector and dignified treatment of all those serving there. The challenges facing the Kosovo Republic Police are even beyond the challenges you mentioned, far greater. The same is true of all those serving in the military, the KSF, the Emergency Management Agency, the firemen, those who serve in the AKI, in our intelligent service. They have extraordinary challenges, Kabashi-Ramaj added.

It has announced that during recent mandates it has proposed amendments to the budget and to the Health Insurance Law, with the aim of providing health and vital protection for members of the security and defence sector.

Therefore, even in recent mandates, I have given much caution and proposed specific amendments, initially in the budget proposed, budgetary changes meant to provide all security and health and life insurance personnel. But then, even in the Law on Health Insurance, the two attempts have failed because there has been no support from MPs in office, in this case Vetevendosje deputies have said.

Even Alliance for the Future of Kosovo ( In an interview for EO, Time Kadrijay has raised concern over the lack of uniforms and equipment needed for police officers. She has said this issue has also been raised in past mandates, but, according to her, concerns have not been taken into account by the Government.

We have also raised this concern in the past mandates, because we have continued contact with the Kosovo Police. We have friends, maybe we have family. And it’s been really disturbing because they have a lack of uniforms, lack of shoes, and they’re forced on their own salaries, extra, to buy part of the uniform, shirts, maybe shoes, in order to continue their work, Kadrij has declared.

The Alliance’s MP has demanded that institutions reflect and provide adequate conditions for members of the Kosovo Police and Army, including uniforms and tools needed for the exercise of tasks.

We have raised this concern and concern has not been taken on the basis of this government. I also think that these should reflect, treat both the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Army with dignity, and equip them with uniforms, equip them with adequate tools needed for a modern police officer. The same applies to the Kosovo Army, but also to the Correcting Service, firefighters and all categories that, when we need them, are at the helm of the task. So if they are our strength, if they are our protection, we must treat them with dignity, Kadriy said.
