President is expected to return the Special Law to the Assembly today

Kosovo President Justina Shiroka-Pula is expected to return the Law for Specialised Chambers to the Parliament today, according to TV sources Dukagjin within the presidency.

Prior to the law’s return, a meeting between the president and representatives of political parties is expected to be held, after which the law will be forwarded to the Assembly for review.

These developments have revealed exclusively Wednesday night to the author and moderator of the show “Debat Plus,” Ermal Panduri.

The Assembly approved the law with 88 deputies’ votes on 6 October, while the new president sent it on October 15th for decree.

The adopted changes include limiting the maximum sentence to 15 years, the possibility of suffering punishments in Kosovo, presidential pardon and complaints to the Supreme Court on cases related to the jurisdiction of the Specialised Chambers.

The European Union has voiced concerns about the compliance of changes with Kosovo’s international obligations.

If the president returns the law, the Assembly will reconsider it. Under constitutional procedures, the president can bring back a law for review only once, if the Assembly approves again, the law is prosecuted under constitutional rules.
