Saudi oil company Saudi Aramco has ordered the evacuation of employees from its headquarters in Dahran following attacks by the Huthhi rebels to Yemen.
According to reports, employees have been asked to leave the building and continue working from home. This is one of the first steps of this kind since the beginning of the Iran war.
Early this month, the Huths hit the company’s headquarters building, causing considerable damage. After the attack, a fire broke out in the complex, which Saudi authorities described as limited.
Tensions have escalated even after recent attacks on Saudi territory. On Wednesday evening, King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was hit, while two people died and eight others were injured. The victims were a Saudi citizen and an Indian citizen.
The Huths have claimed that in the past 48 hours, they have also targeted the airport at Abha, the Ministry of Defence in Riyadh and Aramco’s facilities in Yanbu. However, these claims have not been confirmed by Saudi authorities.
Meanwhile, the coalition led by Saudi Arabia announced that it has been intercepting fears over Riyadh and Medina.
Evacuation of Aramco’s employees comes a day after the US State Department urged American diplomats and their families to leave diplomatic representations in Saudi Arabia.
The security situation in the region remains tense, while Washington has so far rejected Saudi demands to engage directly in the fight against the Huths. /Telegraphy/
