A total of 15 kidney transplants have been performed this year at the University Clinic of Urology, compared with 11 throughout 2025, while three more transplants from a live donor have been planned by the end of the year. Health Minister Sasho Klekovski, declared this at the clinic today after visiting patients who recently received kidney transplants, two from a deceased donor and one from a living donor.
We owe our greatest gratitude to the family of the deceased donor. At the most difficult moment, they made a decision that gave our two fellow citizens their lives without dialis. It’s an extraordinary act of humanity for which there’s not enough words. Gratitude also for the living donor, who donated part of himself to his loved ones, Klekovski stressed.
Klekovski also thanked the medical teams from urology and nephrology clinics, as well as all involved in the donor co-ordination process.
Every transplant is a result of confidence, group work and commitment. We continue to strengthen the transplant network and raise awareness of organ donation, because many patients still await their chance, Klekovski stressed. /Telegraphy/
