Trump confirms the US has carried out new attacks on Iran

US President Donald Trump confirmed that US forces have carried out limited air attacks on an Iranian antiaircraft system on the island of Kesm in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump described the operation as small, adding that American forces destroyed, within minutes, a small Iranian antiaircraft system.

É destroyed in 15 minutes, perhaps for five, Trump told reporters without telling exactly where the attacks were carried out and without offering other operational details.

His statement was made after the media reported explosions on the island of Keshm.

The semi-official Iranian news agency in Iran, Tasnim reported that, according to initial data, two rockets hit Keshm Island as state news agency I The RNA, citing local witnesses, reported that two shells had hit the Suza area after a plane had been heard flying over that area.

Iranian media also claimed that the country’s air defence had hampered and destroyed an American MQ-1 Predator fears on the island of Keshm.

Meanwhile, President Trump said Washington is continuing to contact Tehran. Speaking to reporters in Florida, he said: We’re talking to Iran. We’ve been in touch. They desperately want a deal.

The strategic island of Keschm is at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important sea routes in the world to transport energy.

The island is home to a large underground site for rockets, a naval base, and a large water desalination plant, according to The Wall Street Journal. The island has been targeted by American forces in the early stages of fighting, while American officials have also discussed the possibility of taking control of it.

The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in late February. President Trump has repeatedly reiterated that the main goal of the US military campaign is for Iran to be unable to possess nuclear weapons.
