During the report to the Commission for European Integration, Zulfaj answered questions from Alliance MP Time Kadriyj, who asked for clarification on whether the government has provided the votes needed for the adoption of the Civil Code, especially on provisions related to marriage, family community and the rights of persons with different sexual orientation.
Zulfaj made it known that of the remaining 22 steps under the growth plan reforms, two of them are in the jurisdiction of the Assembly, including the adoption of the Civil Code.
He did not provide any guarantees for the vote’s security, but voiced hope that MPs would achieve reconciliation for the values represented in the document.
It’s the decision’s responsibility to pass it. I hope that there will be social consensus on values represented in the Civil Code, Zulfaj said.
During the discussion, Kadrijaj also raised the issue of Kosovo’s European perspective, asking about the possibility of opening negotiations for membership in the European Union, political developments in Serbia and their impact on Kosovo reports.
Regarding European integration, Zulfaj estimated that Kosovo does not have any unfulfilled criteria that would pose an obstacle to opening membership negotiations. According to him, crucial in this process remains political will and unity within the European Union.
He stressed that Kosovo remains more advanced in developmental terms compared to some countries in the region that have already advanced in the European integration process.
Meanwhile, for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, elections in Serbia, the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex, as well as the suspension of strategic dialogue with the US, Zulfaj said these issues are not part of his area of responsibility.
He suggested that topics related to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue require clarification by the chief negotiator responsible for the process.
Zulfaj also called for unity in the agenda of reforms, stressing that their fulfillment remains important for Kosovo’s advancement towards the European Union.
