Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has declared he is ready for negotiations after meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff, the BBC reports.
The meeting took place in Oslo, at a time when relations between the Ukrainian president and the American president, Donald Trump, have deteriorated.
Zelensky announced that Witkoff will travel to Russia on Wednesday. He said he expects the US to present the ideas discussed during the meeting, aimed at helping find a possible peaceful solution.
The head of the Ukrainian state added that one of the proposals discussed is holding a meeting between the three leaders, but stressed that it remains to be seen how Russian President Vladimir Putin will respond.
At the media conference, Zelensky was accompanied by Finnish President Alexander Stubbb, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Stubbb said negotiations held during the day had marked real progress, adding that the parties had identified some elements that could contribute to the achievement of peace.
Zelensky, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring intelligence information that helps warn Russian attacks.
He pointed out that early warning systems are important to the safety of the Ukrainian people.
The United States has earlier denied that it has limited intelligence sharing with Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described allegations that Ukrainians were losing their lives as scandalous because Washington was hiding intelligence information from Kiev.
