Gjilan Young Child Beating by Fellows, Family Leaves Kosovo

Violence was recorded, images spread, history was all but forgotten, but wounds resulting from it never.

They continue to weigh on a minor from Gjilan, who according to the family, failed to overcome the trauma, while institutions did not offer him the necessary support.

In August 2025, the girl became the victim of a brutal beating by her peers.

As the school year began, another encounter began for her, this time not on the street but within the school walls, which followed the teaching of the girls who attacked her.

For the family, this situation made it even more serious to experience trauma. So claiming that the girl did not get the right treatment, they decided to eventually leave Kosovo.

We’re headed 50 years from now, my family and I have a career in Gjilan and as an education worker and as a musician, I’m the head of Kosovo, my wife was a pharmacist, a magistrate has quit her job and a profession, my son has abandoned his studies, my daughter has quit school. Traumas and injuries are incurable and eternal, Arben Krasniqi, the parent of the minor, stressed.

According to Krasniqi, none of the municipal and central institutions took appropriate measures to protect the girl.

If you talk about the Ministry of Education, absolutely not. With the Director of Education in Gjilan, we have an fruitless meeting, non-professional treatment, they have never dealt with the case seriously.

In this regard, Dukaagini television has visited elementary school in Gjilan, who, through a written reply, have told of the steps followed.

The school’s pathologist has been in constant communication and cooperation with the relevant actors and has conducted support and awareness activities with students. In cases where parents have sought professional outside treatment, the school has respected their request. At the request of parents, one of the students has moved to another educational institution, while other students continue their schooling at our school, has declared Liridon Salihu the school principal.

Even the former director of education in Gjilan, Shpend Nuhiu, through a telephone response said he was notified of these measures, while not confirming that regular psychologist has been appointed for the minor.

However, family claims do not end only at school. Krasniqi also criticises the Centre for Social Work.

There’s a shrink in the Center for Social Work, they’re big leagues, they promise a lot, they can’t make any real sense, they do things superficially. We have all done in private, and the visits to the doctor and everything else, Krasniqi stressed.

The Center for Social Work has been unwilling to speak to the camera, but through email they are said to respond to the case within legal terms.

They were reserved by the Directorate for Social Goodness.

Dukagjini Television Team has requested clarification from the Gjilan Centre for Social Work to understand what measures they took in this situation. …They haven’t responded.

The answer has also been requested by the Ministry of Education with the aim of clarifying whether concrete measures exist for providing psychological support and professional treatment for minors who face such cases, but until the publication of the chronics have returned no response.

In cases like these, according to clinical psychology specialist, analysis and treatment for those involved are necessary.

The consequences can be very serious. It’s important to have detailed appreciation, which has been the psychological damage that has been caused, and on the basis of that, to see symptomsology, and on that assessment. It is very important to consider the form of treatment of girls who have caused violence, to observe the eventual difficulty of not happening to repeat such an act even further, Violet Zefi, clinical psychology specialist, has declared.

The family also had criticism for the legal organs.

Even the courts in Kosovo are unfortunately corrupted by politics, even by people working in the Court.

For this detail, Gjilan’s Foundation Court explained that initially against two minors was pronounced institutional educational measures of being sent to the educational-curved institution, in the course of a year and six months, while measures on the third minor had been imposed over a year.

But the case was returned to restoration by the Court of Appeals, where after the review, the sentence was softened to the educational extent of the parent-added supervision for a certain period.

A study i U n NICEFs for mental and psycho-social health services for children in Kosovo found that essential services are missing, such as shelters for child victims and functional reporting lines, while schools lack psychologists who could promote witness-based prevention programmes.
