Voting closed in Serbia, Vuciq: If we lose, we will know the result

Following the closure of seats in Serbia’s parliamentary elections, President Aleksandar Vuciq has declared that his party will accept the result, whether it wins or loses.

After voting in New Belgrade, where he was accompanied by wife Tamara Vuciq, he said he expects the election process to end in peace and for the result to reflect the will of citizens.

We will always be responsible. If we lose, we will recognize the will of voters, and if we win, no one will take that victory from us, Vuciq told reporters.

He singled out these elections as crucial to Serbia’s future, saying citizens would determine through the vote the direction the country will take.

Vuciq also expressed expectations for high turnout and made it known that the first estimates of the results could be published between 22:00 and 23:30.

Asked about the possibility of losing power and crossing into opposition, the Serbian president said everything would depend on the election outcome and that in such a case, he would have to hold talks with other opposition parties.

During the proposal, he also spoke about relations with Croatia, expressing hope for their improvement, but simultaneously criticising Croatian media for, as he claimed, interference in Serbia’s domestic policy.

Vuciq also expressed satisfaction with the support he received from Russian President Vladimir Putin and cited different developments during the election campaign.

In the end, he said he has faced many challenges during the political career and stressed that, according to him, the results of government work are evident through projects and developments in the country.
