France’s President Emmanuel Macron has warned that next Saturday will be a high-risk day due to continued protests, while trade unions are calling for nationwide mobilization.
During a visit to Marseilles, Macron said authorities are preparing for future protests, stressing that the furniture can continue in the coming weeks.
We know that next Saturday is still a high-risk day. We know November 5th will be a day of national mobilization involving all trade unions, and there are other Saturdays ahead, Macron told reporters.
He stressed that repeat protests every Saturday is not inevitable, while added that authorities will continue to be organised to ensure the safety of citizens and to protect the property and city centres.
The French head of state also said he had asked the government to respond to demands that remain at the foundation of the social movement.
In this context, Prime Minister Sébastien LeCornu is expected to meet with representatives of the high school community. Macron warned that after this meeting there may be announcements and concrete steps intended to bring changes in the short term.
