Open Serbia’s archives, whiteen Milosevic-Vuciq regime crimes

Political analyst Jasmin Mujanovic has demanded that Serbia’s new government open secret services archives and clear the direct involvement of the Serbian state in the wars of the ’90s.

In a response on the X platform, Mujanovqka stressed that the new government in Belgrade must implement a genuine policy of lustration, which would include leaving the institutions of persons linked to previous regimes.

He has named Dejan Shoschkiić, former governor of Serbia’s Central Bank, as one of the serious candidates for prime minister, referring to his stances on lustration and limiting the influence of oligarchs associated with President Aleksandar Vuciq’s party.

According to Mujanovac, Serbia did not complete the process of secession from the legacy of Slobodan Milosevic’s regime after his departure from power. Security archives were not opened, while intelligence, military and police facilities were not properly reformed.

He has estimated that this situation contributed to the return of figures linked to that regime, including Vucinqi, on the Serbian political scene.

Mujanovic has demanded that the opening of archives enable the dawning of persons who, according to him, have been bugged, persecuted or killed by Milosevic and Vuciqi’s regimes, as well as networks of political and media collaborators in Serbia, the region and Europe.

In the end, he has said that Serbian nationalism has been characterised by two pillars — authoritarianism within the country and expansionism abroad. According to him, the new government could launch a historic split from this legacy by whiteling the consequences of past policies.
