Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti received political representatives from the Valley in Pristina who won two mandates at Serbia’s Parliament in Sunday’s elections.
Kurti said the reunification brought the best result of Albanians in Serbia since 2000.
Bashka, as agreed on September 29th, I waited again today at the Office of the Prime Minister of Director and Representatives of Political Subjects, activists and co-members from Presevo, Medvedja, Bujanovac and the New Pazar, who put aside their differences by becoming one on the Albanian Coordination List. The reunification brought the best result of Albanians in Serbia since 2000. So far, full of 1,233 more votes than in 2020, when three mandates were won, he wrote in a Facebook post.
Albanians are the fourth largest population minority in Serbia, but in Sunday’s elections there are ranked second in votes and first in mandates, along with Hungarians, among the national minorities’ lists. The two largest parties in Serbia have 244 mandates together. Four minority lists, six. Two of them are of the Albanian coalition, he added.
Kurti said the importance of the Albanian result exceeds numbers because it has been achieved under the circumstances of applying addresses, not recognising diplomas, systematic exclusion from public institutions, economic discrimination, immigration and emptying Albanian settlements.
For more than two decades, Albanians have been a bit of a double opposition. Opposition to power and opposition to the state, which had placed itself in opposition to them. The union must not end. We need to understand that on October 25th, the new quality of union has a new chapter that must continue with strong rights protection, demand for equality, and a bid for dignified life in the country. The two mandates are joint achievement, and above all, are shared responsibility. Where greater opportunities are, even responsibility is greater, he said.
