Berisha: DP calls national protest Saturday, support students

Asked by reporters at the media conference whether the opposition will support the protest warned by young people, Berisha said the support of the Democratic Party will be complete.

Over and over. The Democratic Party calls national protest in support of students. Nothing further separates the Democratic Party from these two principles — powerful support, their defence, Berisha said.

He called on Tirana citizens to join the protest, while stressing that Albanians from the diaspora are expected to participate.

I am here to call on all citizens of the capital to join this protest, with this revolt of extraordinary importance for the future of this country, Berisha said.

Header The DP condemned what it described as violence and pressure on citizens participating in peaceful protests, accusing police of violating the law and the Constitution.

I object with the greatest force of terror, the unconstitutional violence that the commissioners, in violation of all laws, are exercising against citizens in cities and everywhere for their participation in peaceful protests, he said.

Berisha also stated that the student cause has received international support, thanks to US congressmen and senators, representatives of the European Parliament and the German Bundestag, as well as international organisations that have reacted to the issue.

He mentioned among others US congressmen Joe Wilson, Robert Aderholt and Keith Self, as well as senators Chris Murphy and Elissa Slotkin, praising their statements in support of their students and requests.

As for the participation of Democratic deputies in parliamentary commissions, Berisha said their presentation and subsequent departure is the parliamentary group’s decision, aimed at condemning violence against students and expressing support for their protest.

For the opposition’s stance during discussions on the fiscal package and 2027 budget, he said other decisions would be communicated later.
