During their conversation with Putin, the two leaders intended to forward messages directly regarding future negotiations on ending the war. Discussions also focused on the planned meetings between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi, due to be held in early November.

The outcome of the war requires direct discussions, Stubbb said after the call, underlining the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts with Moscow.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stressed the serious human and material consequences of war, warning that they will be felt even by future generations.

Finland and Norway, which borders on Russia and supports Ukraine, have common interest in maintaining stability and security in the Baltic Sea region and in the Far North, the official statement said.

The conversation takes place at a time when diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine are continuing, while attention has focused on the expected meetings in Abu Dhabi and the possibility of the progress of negotiations between the parties.
