Cristiano Ronaldo is named winner of the Best Golden Ball award, with the 2008 season

Cristiano Ronaldo has been chosen B.O.A.T. Prize winner. (Ballon d’Or of All Time), a special assessment organised by the French magazine France Football to determine the best edition of the Golden Ball in history.

The winner has been announced the 2008 edition, when the Portuguese star first won the Golden Ball.

In the vote for this award, Ronaldo’s 2008 edition has left after that of Lionel Mess in 2012. The two footballers dominated the top 12 ranking positions, while Ronaldo Nazário was included in the list after them, with the Golden Ball won in 2002.

For the latest edition of the Golden Ball ceremony, France Football presented the new B.O.A.T. Award, with rules different from those of the traditional vote. This time around, the winner was determined, not by sports journalists, but by the magazine users’ votes.

The Golden Ball editions won by footballers who have received this prize at least twice during their careers were included. Voters had to choose a certain edition, not just the footballer they considered best in history.
