Gazmend Hoxha has resigned from the position of Kosovo Police General Director, following the case of the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj in Peja by her brother-in-law with axes, which sparked numerous reactions and demands for institutional accountability.
Hoxha was appointed to this position on March 8, 2023, following the recommendation of then Interior Minister Jelal Svecla.
His resignation comes after criticism and demands for institutional responsibilities regarding actions and inactions of the bodies responsible in the Arlinda case.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accepted Hodza’s request for resignation and has relieved him of duty, while in his place has appointed Fehmi Hotin task director General of the Kosovo Police.
Prior to Gazmend Hoxha’s appointment at the head of the Kosovo Police, that position was held by Samedin Mehmet, who resigned in August 2022. He had declared that the resignation was linked to personal reasons and a professional conscience, following the case of a 11-year-old violation in Pristina.
