Albanian Ganimes Shala appoints rapporteur at Council of Europe, vies for Ljubljana Municipal Council as well

Ganimes Shala, Albanian engaged in public life in Slovenia, has been appointed rapporteur for strengthening children’s voices at the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. In addition to this European level engagement, it is part of the race for local elections in Ljubljana, where it ranks second on the Social Democrats’ (SD) list, Telegraph writes.

Another Albanian is marking an important step in institutional representation in Europe. Ganimes Shala has been appointed rapporteur for strengthening children’s voices at the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, headquartered in Strasbourg, France.

The news has revealed Shala herself through a Facebook post, where she has expressed satisfaction with the new appointment, which she calls a great honor and responsibility.

Shala has announced that the appointment was made on October 27, 2026, during the session of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

This appointment implies a great recognition and confidence shown to me, but at the same time brings an important responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to the European level in strengthening children’s participation in life-affecting decisions and their future, Shala wrote.

It has also stressed the importance of hearing and inclusion children in decision-making processes, underlining that they are not only the future, but also an important part of the present.

Children are not only our future but also an important part of our present. Therefore, it is fair that we not only listen to their voice but also follow it, she stressed.

Race for Ljubljana Municipal Council as well

Besides the new engagement within the Council of Europe, Ganimet Shala is also involved in political life in Slovenia.

It ran the local elections for the Ljubljana Municipal Council, on the Social Democrat Party (SD) list, which ranks second.

Its two commitments, at the European institutional level and in Slovenian local politics, testify to its involvement in issues of importance to community and society.

For the Albanian community in Slovenia and the Albanian diaspora in general, the appointment of Ghanais Shala in a role within the Council of Europe constitutes a development of interest, bringing another Albanian name to European institutional space./Telegraphy/
