Iliana Ioova has won the presidential election in Bulgaria, becoming the first woman elected to head of state.
According to the almost final results of the Central Election Commission, after processing 99.95 per cent of the polling, Ioova and vice presidential candidate Valchev have received 57.58 per cent of the vote, or about 1.1 million votes.
Meanwhile, their counterCandids, Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Candev, have secured 39.47 per cent of the vote, or about 749 thousand and 500 votes.
About 2.95 percent of voters have chosen the option I do not support anyone.
The run-off elections were held Sunday, as in the first round, on October 25th, no candidate managed to secure the necessary majority for victory. So Ioova and Valchev had received 34.6 percent of the vote, while Gyurov and Candev 32 percent.
Ioova, who had previously exercised the post of vice president, took office as president in January after Rumen Radev resigned to participate in parliamentary elections, which he won with a coalition that by some political analysts is considered close to the Kremlin, Reuters reports.
