Hide house and pension in Kosovo to receive social aid in Austria, forced to return 9 thousand euros

A Kosovar living in the town of Wels in Austria has been cut off from social aid after authorities found that he had hidden his wealth and income from the pension he received in Kosovo.

In addition to cutting off aid, he has been asked to return nearly $9,000, which he had benefited from Austrian institutions. According to Wels County, this amount has already been repaid through installment payments.

The case was made public by Wels’ own municipality, through an official announcement published on November 2, 2026.

According to authorities, doubts began after several raids on the person’s residence, where municipal officials failed to find it.

Further documentation revealed that he owned a house in Kosovo and received a pension there. These revenues and assets had not stated them near Austrian institutions, while continuing to benefit social aid.

After several visits to the residence, during which the person was not found, it was found that he owned a house in Kosovo and received a pension there, without stating these to authorities. Social assistance was interrupted and the person was denounced. The amount of nearly $9,000 (U.S.) required for return was repaid in installments, says the Wels municipality announcement.

The municipality has announced that the case is part of the control over the misuse of social aid in this city.
