El-Sayed says he’s just as committed to protecting the Jewish community as he is to his children.
Abdul El-Sayed, elected Democrat senator in Michigan, responded to voters who did not support him because of his stand on Israel, stressing that he is committed to the safety of the Jewish communities.
I’m on the side of love and against hate, it was quoted as saying El-Sayed about CNN, it’s a telegram.
I understand what it means to be demonized because of the way you pray. And I want a Michigan where no one feels that way; where, when you send the child to school or the synagogue, I know he will return home safely and be treated with respect. This is something we can all work together, he added.
You can love, appreciate and respect Palestinian children, and love them, appreciate and respect Jewish children. In fact, I think you should do both, he stressed.
So when it comes to the Jews ‘ safety, I am as committed to the safety of the Jewish community as I am to the safety of my children.
He was responding to comments by some voters among whom one questioned his support for the Jewish community, while another stressed his opposition to hatred.
El-Sayed said he believes voters’ disappointment with him stems mainly from his stance regarding Israel.
He argued that criticism of the use of American taxes to finance Israel does not conflict with support for the safety of Jewish communities.
But I will not withdraw from the issue whether our taxes should be used to subsidise genocide, apartheid or war. I think we should be able to distinguish between the safety of the Jewish community in Michigan and throughout the United States, on the other hand, and our foreign policy approach to the Israeli government, El-Said said in part. /Telegraph/
