Hoxhaj: Kosovo membership in NATO, EU, response to Chinese influence

IKosovo’s top diplomat, Enver Hoxhaj, has called for Kosovo’s membership in NATO and the European Union, along with the region’s Euro-Atlantic integration, to be seen as a strategic response to China’s growing influence on the Balkans.

In a post accompanied by videos from his speech at the IPAC Summit in The Hague, attended by the China Interparliamentary Alliance, Hoxhaj has stressed that Chinese engagement in the economy, military and technology reflects Beijing’s geopolitical ambitions in the region.

Kosovo and the Balkans cannot remain indefinitely in Europe’s parliament! wrote Hoxhaj.

According to him, the hope that increased Chinese influence and, above all, Russia’s war in Ukraine would awaken geopolitical Europe has not yet been fulfilled. He has estimated that, instead of an enlargement process that would give Europe a new impetus, the region has faced the status quo and stagnation.

Hoxhaj has stressed that Kosovo’s membership in NATO and the EU, along with the Euro-Atlantic integration of other Balkan countries, is the best response to the breach of Chinese influence through the region in Europe.

It has called for enlargement to be treated as a geopolitical project, directly linked to Europe’s own security and future.
