According to published data, 37,759 Albanian citizens registered on the Special Election List have the right to vote in this election.
There are four electoral lists, with a total of 107 candidates aiming to win 29 seats at the Albanian National Council.
In order of the ballot, they compete:
) LPDUSH, carrying Eagle Musliu;
) PDL, carrying Sali Salih;
) PVD ‘%AL, Party of Democratic Action;
) APN, carrying Levent Qazimi.
One of the major changes in this election process is the return of the Albanian National Council to the 29-member composition, up from 15 for more than a decade. This change results from data from the 2022 population census.
The Albanian National Council has public competencies in four key areas: education, culture, information and official use of Albanian language and writing.
Through their vote, Albanian citizens in these three municipalities will determine the representatives that will make up this institution for the next four-year mandate.
Voter turnout and its result will determine the new composition of the Albanian body, representatives of the Albanian body in Serbia.
On the eve of the elections, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called on Albanians in the Presevo Valley to participate in the vote and exercise their democratic right.
In a Facebook post, Kurti has stressed the importance of restoring the Council to the 29-member composition and has mentioned the Kosovo Government’s support for Kosovo Albanians Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja, through textbooks, scholarships for students and students, and support for culture and representative institutions.
He has also cited some of the challenges facing the Albanians in the Valley, such as sinceing addresses, discrimination and institutional sub-representation.
