Iran Sends US a Proposal on Nuclear Issue Through Qatar

Iran has sent the United States a nuclear proposal through Qatar, which will be discussed only after Washington meets Tehran’s seven requirements, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Thursday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the US were considering the proposal but refused to provide further details.

Mediators have intensified efforts to end the war between Iran and the United States amid fears that it could resume after the mid-term US elections, with Trump on Tuesday refusing to rule out a relaunch of combat operations after the vote and Iran planning broad revenge if the war resumes.

Iran’s top security official, Mohsen Rezaei, had said earlier Thursday, during a visit to Russia that regarding the diplomatic issue, we have announced to Americans seven conditions. As long as they don’t apply our seven conditions, we won’t even open Hormuz Strait, nor will we hold negotiations.

Iran has called for the removal of US sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets and war damages, under other conditions, while Washington has said nuclear issues must be part of any initial negotiations.

The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28th, and Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf states that house US bases. The conflict also erupted in Lebanon between Iran and Israel’s Iran-backed Hezbollah, and recently spread to Yemen, where Iran-related Huthites have hit power objects, airports and other targets in Saudi Arabia.
