rKosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called on the Albanians of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja to participate in elections for the Albanian National Council, which are held tomorrow, November 8th.
Through a message to the citizens of the Valley, Kurti has stressed the importance of these elections for representing Albanians and advancing their collective rights.
According to him, 37,759 Albanians registered in the Special Election List have voting rights, while four electoral lists — with a total of 107 candidates — compete for 29 seats in this representative institution.
Kurti has recalled that, after more than a decade with only 15 members, the Albanian National Council returns to the 29-member composition as a result of the 2022 population census.
He has described this as a significant return for representing Albanians and protecting their collective rights.
The prime minister has stressed that the Albanian National Council has public authorisations in the fields of education, culture, information, as well as official use of Albanian language and writing.
According to him, these competencies are essential for the preservation and development of Albanian national identity, including education in Albanian, textbooks, cultural institutions and the media in Albanian.
Kurti has also cited the challenges Albanians in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja face, stressing that, despite obstacles from Serbian state institutions, having reached addresses, discrimination and institutional sub-representation, they continue to insist on their rights and the future in their homeland.
He has reiterated that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will continue to be near Albanians in the Valley, through support in education, culture and representative institutions.
In this direction, Kurti has mentioned offering textbooks, scholarships for students and students, as well as supporting Albanian culture and representative institutions.
At the end of the message, the prime minister has called on citizens to participate in the elections and exercise their democratic right to vote freely and according to personal conviction.
Kurt’s finished.
