Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has demanded that Kosovo be granted candidate country status for membership in the European Union and negotiations for membership open.
During his speech at the Berlin Process Summit in Budva in Montenegro, Kurti has declared that Kosovo stands firm for EU values and that foreign policy acts as if it were a member state. He has also called for Kosovo’s NATO membership.
Kurti has criticised Serbia for, as expressed, using hostile methods towards Kosovo, comparing them to Russia’s methods. He has cited the terrorist attack on Banjska, where Kosovo Police Sergeant Africa Bulnjak was killed, as well as the explosion in the Iber-Lepenci channel in Varag.
The prime minister has stressed that Milan Radoic, whom he has described as responsible for the attack on Banjska, continues to be free and protected by Serbian authorities.
In Kosovo, a neighbour has used the same methods, for the same purposes, against our state. Last month, there were three years of terrorist attacks in the northern village of Banjska, where our police sergeant Africa Bulnjaku was killed, Kurti said.
He has demanded that the attacks on Kosovo be addressed as the issue affecting all of Europe, arguing that a common response is needed.
“Sulmi to a European democracy is an attack on all of Europe and deserves collective answers, because the response that happens to be built is not preventative. For Kosovo, NATO membership also brings prevention, he has declared.
In his address, Kurti has also raised the issue of Albanians in the Presevo Valley, calling on summit participants to pay attention to their situation.
I call on you to look closely at the Presevo Valley, where Albanians, step by step, are being pushed outside institutions, public life and civic life, as the stance is becoming much more difficult than moving away. Human dignity and human rights are the first among the values we have to share, Kurti said.
