Over 100 fears hit an industrial facility in Russia, allegedly one of the largest oil refinerys

A massive fearful attack has hit an industrial facility in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region at night, while preliminary reports suggest that the target of the attack may have been the Kstovo oil refinery, one of the largest in the country.

The region’s governor, Gleb Nikitti, confirmed that the area was targeted by a wide-ranging attack with fears. In a reaction to the telegram, he indicated that the industrial object in the Kstovo district had suffered considerable damage.

According to Nikitin, more than 100 fears were destroyed during the attack. He stressed that, based on preliminary information, there are no people injured, while emergency teams are on the scene.

The governor also warned of possible temporary power outages and restrictions on supply of hot water and heating in some areas until damage repair works are completed.

Meanwhile, several channels on Telegram that convey war developments reported that the target of the attack was the Lukoil-Nizegorodneorgintez refinery in Kstovo. This refinery produces, among other things, diesel oil and aviation fuel.

The attack comes after reports of a large fire in another oil refinery in the Samara region earlier this week, allegedly caused by a fearful attack.

Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian energy infrastructure this year, targeting refinerys, terminals and oil depots. Kiev aims to hit an important Russian economy sector and limit Moscow’s capacities to finance the war.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some 280 thousand families in Ukraine were left without electricity following Friday night’s Russian attacks.

According to him, about 200 thousand families in Dnipro and the surrounding region, as well as over 80 thousand others in the Kiev region, were without electricity.

Zelensky announced that Russian forces had hit a combined power and heating production plant in Kiev, as well as four electrical substations in the Dnepro region.

Thus, attacks on energy infrastructure continue to impact energy supply in both countries, within the war between Russia and Ukraine.
