Nagavci: Arlinda warned that life could be taken, institutions accountable

The head of the Vetevendosje Movement Parliamentary Group, Arberie Nagavci, has called for institutional responsibility for the murder of Arlinda Silla Zekiaj in Vitomirica, Pec, stressing that she had warned of the impending danger.

During the extraordinary Kosovo Assembly session, called after her assassination and for dealing with cases of violence against women and children, Nagavci announced that on October 22nd, a few days before the assassination, Arlinda had sent an urgent letter to the Constitutional Prosecutor at Pec.

In this letter, according to Nagavci, she had requested immediate action, implementation of a judicial order and investigation of officials who, according to her, had not fulfilled their duties.

Nagavci stressed that institutions should clarify what happened to the letter, whether the risk was seriously assessed, and whether measures were taken to protect the victim.

I wish the day would not come when you and responsible institutions would be forced to render accounts only after my life was taken, Nagavci quoted a portion of Arlinda’s letter.

It raised questions about the prosecution’s actions and implementation of the judicial order, seeking concrete answers to institutional responsibilities.

According to her, the prosecution should act urgently when there are concrete warnings of risk to life, while judicial decisions should be implemented and safeguard clauses made effective.

In the end, Nagavci announced that a parliamentary investigative commission would be formed to review institutional links that may have failed in this case.
