Democratic League of Kosovo MP ( LDK), Vjosa Osmani, has declared that violence against women does not begin at the moment of the assassination, but much earlier, through control, threats, insults and normalisation of violence in society.
Speaking at the extraordinary session of the Kosovo Assembly, following the assassination of Arlinda Sylaj Zakaj, Osmani said the letter left by the victim should serve as a call for social and institutional reflection.
She stressed that control of women, disrespecting their decisions, and lack of responsibility for violence can create conditions for it to escalate.
Osman also warned of the danger of normalizing the language of hatred and assault on women, praising that the insults and threats they pass without reaction may make the aggressor feel unhindered.
According to her, violence should not be treated as a private issue nor be justified by society, but must be clearly rejected before it escalates.
