Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has asked the European Union for Kosovo to be granted candidate country status for membership, praising that the country’s current position in the European integration process does not reflect the progress achieved.
Kurti has declared that Kosovo deserves to advance to the next phase of European integration and start negotiations for EU membership.
He has recalled that soon it is four years from the surrender of Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union, while the country continues to be the only one in the Western Balkans who has not received candidate status.
In spite of that, Kosovo remains the only country in the Western Balkans without candidate status, Kurti has said.
During his address, the prime minister has addressed EU Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, demanding that the questionnaire regarding Kosovo’s application be handed over as soon as possible so that the way is opened for the launch of membership negotiations in the European Union.
Ambassador, let me repeat our application to the questionnaire as soon as possible for our application, so that the opening of negotiations will open up, Kurti has declared.
