The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has published an official statement regarding elections held Sunday, October 25th, in Serbia.
In a statement issued by Shaheen senators Grazley, Durbin, Tillis and Coons, citizens’ participation in the election is praised, and the result derived from the ballot boxes. The document also mentions normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
According to the Committee, the Student List is projected to win the decisive majority of mandates in parliament. Senators have praised him for the example set as a peaceful and community-based democratic movement.
The fact that the ruling party accepted the clear election results is also welcomed in the statement. The important role of international and local observers in ensuring a free urban space is also stressed.
The American Senate names this a key moment for Serbia’s future, noting that the elections brought new voices to parliament from different parts of Serbian society.
In the end, Washington has reconfirmed its commitment to supporting Serbia’s aspirations for membership in the European Union, strengthening democratic institutions and efforts to normalise relations with Kosovo.
