The Movement for Religious Thoughts and Action movement has called for national revolt after the assassination of Arlinda Zekaj, demanding institutional responsibility for the protection of women’s lives and security in Kosovo.
The protest has been warned for Wednesday, at 4: 00 p.m., in Zahir Pajaziti Square in Pristina, where protesters are expected to march towards the country’s institutions.
According to the report published on Facebook, the march will continue towards the Ministry of Justice, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, the Kosovo Judiciary Council, the Kosovo Police and Government.
The target has criticised institutions for, as it puts out, ignoring women’s life and security, claiming that the murder of Arlinda Zekij had been warned by the victim himself, who had sought help.
Arlinda Zekij was killed with state mediation, which does not trust women, despises them, neglects them, and continues to see them primarily as the property of men, said the organisation’s response.
According to Kolestik, violence against women relates to the patriarchy in society and institutional neglect, which requires accountability.
The organisation has warned that mobilisation will not end with Wednesday’s protest, declaring it will continue to hit the streets and block institutions in the coming days.
So, on Wednesday, Thursday, the next Friday, we’re going out on the streets, we’re blocking institutions because it’s the last time this country is accountable, it’s said.
In the end, the Council of Thoughts and Feminist Action has called on citizens to join the protest and solidify in demanding institutional responsibility and greater protection of women from violence.
