The Marseille team reportedly has rejected the club’s new demand for pay cuts at a time when the French giant is facing heavy financial pressure.
According to medium Foot Mercato, the club has asked some footballers to accept another financial sacrifice, but all have refused, causing the parties to fail to reach pay reduction agreements.
Marseille is under the supervision of the French board of financial control of clubs, DNCG.
On June 26th, this institution imposed restrictions on the salary fund and club spending on transfers, following serious financial violations and extraordinary income losses.
The club had taken major savings measures over the past summer, when significant footballers left and no new transfer was made.
President Stephanie Richard had stated that the aim was to cut the wage fund by 30 to 35 percent compared to the preliminary season.
However, the situation has been complicated by the fact that football players’ contracts have been negotiated individually, limiting the leadership’s chances of imposing unilateral changes in salaries.
Under such circumstances, Marseille may be forced to consider other options to ease financial pressure, including the removal of football players or the restructuring of contracts through new agreements. /Telegraph/
