US President Donald Trump has announced that German luxury automaker Audi plans to invest $4.2 billion in Georgia, within efforts to boost industrial production in the United States.
During an electoral rally in Perry, Georgia, Trump declared that Audi, a brand-owned Volkswagen brand, would build a factory in the Macon area, with the aim of producing up to 200 thousand vehicles annually.
The American president attributed this decision to his tax policy, which has promoted it as a way to encourage foreign companies to invest and produce within the US.
The announced investment would represent an important development for the automotive production sector in Georgia, while the goal of producing 200 thousand vehicles annually would represent a considerable industrial capacity.
However, Trump’s announcement does not constitute independent confirmation of the Audi project. Details on the implementation of investment and construction deadlines remain to be clarified.
