The dense snow closes some of the main alpine neck in Switzerland, is restricted by road flow

Heavy snowfalls have forced authorities in Switzerland to close some of the most important alpine necks prematurely, restricting the circulation of several traffic axes.

According to the TCS mountain neck portal, closed are the Gotthard crossings, San Bernardino, Nufenen, Grimsel and Susten. The closures are set for security reasons, while some of them have not yet been disclosed the re-opening deadline, reports WatsonTelevision broadcast.

Meanwhile, the Furka’s neck has been temporarily closed until next Monday.

Although the closed alpine neck during winter is common because of altitude and weather conditions, this year’s rainfall has caused some to close earlier than usual.

Some alpine necks continue to be open

Despite the closures, several mountain crossings in Switzerland remain open for circulation. Among them are Albula and Flüela in the region of Engadina, strengthened by Livigno, Bernina, Julier, and Onen.

Authorities urge automotive drivers to be informed of the state of roads before going on a journey, as snowfall and difficult weather conditions can cause other temporary closures.
