Kurti for the murder of Arlinda Zekaj: She followed all legal ways, but ended up dead.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the murder of Arlinda Zekaj, criticising the way institutions have dealt with cases of violence against women.

Speaking at the 64th meeting of the Vetevendosje Movement General Council, Kurti said the Arlinda case proves that even following legal procedures and seeking protection from institutions have not guaranteed its security.

The murder of Arlinda Zekaj has once again faced us with a serious truth that a woman can follow all the ways the law envisions, denounciate violence, seek protection, even warn in writing that life is at stake and still end up dead, Kurti said.

He stressed that Arlinda had acted in line with the guidelines the institutions give women when facing violence.

Arlinda did what institutions urge women to do when facing violence, the prime minister said.

Kurti recalled that the case flow and concessions listed in the institutional chain had been made public the day before, citing also the lack of co-operation between the respective institutions.

He warned they would seek responsibility for all officials who have failed to fulfill their duties, including criminal responsibility.

I re-increasing that we will be committed to the end so that any responsible official who has not committed his duty to be responsible, not only disciplinary, but criminal. Each of the links must be investigated, Kurti said.

He added that any official who has neglected the task must face appropriate measures.

Anyone who has neglected the job must assume responsibility and face disciplinary and criminal measures, the prime minister concluded. /Telegraphy/
