A new wave of bad weather has swept through several areas of Greece, where heavy rainfall and storms are expected to continue during Monday and Tuesday, mainly in the western part of the country and the islands of the eastern Aegean.
The most problematic situation has been recorded on the island of Rhodes, where intense rainfall during the early hours of Monday caused floods and significant damage, especially in villages in the eastern part of it.
Especially strong phenomena were recorded overnight when the water flooded the streets and created dangerous conditions for the residents.
The area of Arandangelos was among the most affected, for getting out of a riverbed turned roads into powerful streams of water.
As a result, several vehicles were seized from the water flow, while significant damage was reported to shops and other business facilities.
In the face of the situation, emergency teams and responsible services have launched interventions to cope with the consequences of floods.
In parallel, it is working on cleaning and restoring the road network to function, with the aim of normalising circulation and ensuring safety of residents.
At the same time, with local authorities’ decision, schools in Arkangelos municipal units and Afantou in Rhodes will remain closed Monday due to poor weather conditions.
The decision has been made for preventive reasons, with top priority the safety of students and teachers, as well as the avoidance of unnecessary travel in current weather conditions.
