The defence ministry reports that from 10:30 to 12:00 today, at Rinas airport, the search-saving exercise will take place. SAR-2026.
The Armed Forces, State Police, Emergency Services and responsible aviation institutions will participate in the exercise.
The exercise envisions the exit of a plane from the runway and the crash outside the airport’s siege, with the aim of testing responses and co-ordination for the rescue of passengers and crews.
The ministry explains that it is a planned exercise and not a real emergency. During it, citizens may notice increased movement of emergency vehicles in the area near the airport.

Today, on November 4, 2026, between 10:30 and 12: 00 p.m., near Tirana International Airport, Mother Teresa, the planned search-saving exercise will take place. SAR 1926, organised by the National Peace Research Centre ( The QKKSH, in co-operation with institutions and structures responsible for emergency response to cases of air accidents.
Armed Forces, Tirana International Airport ( TIA), State Police, A LBCONTROL, National Investigative Authority for Civil Aviation Security ( AK ISA), National Medical Emergency Center ( CENTURY, Fire and Salvation Protection Service, as well as the Albanian Red Cross.
The exercise will take place on the basis of a simulated scenario, envisioning the exit of a plane from the track and its collision outside the airport’s siege.
The goal is to test response procedures, inter-institute co-ordination and commitment to the search-saving units for evacuation and rescue of passengers and crew.
During the exercise’s development, citizens can find increased movement of emergency vehicles in the area near the airport.
The defence ministry explains that there is only one planned exercise and that there is no real emergency.
The exercise is aimed at boosting operational readiness, improving co-operation among participating structures, and strengthening national capacities for coping with emergency situations in civilian aviation.
