Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has estimated that the European Commission’s 2026 report does not give way back to any area in terms of Kosovo’s preparedness for European integration.
At the media conference, following EU Ambassador to Kosovo Dirk Schuebel’s admission of the report, Kurti said there is no decline in the level of preparation in any area and that the European Commission has not ascertained the reggression.
Commission report, honoured journalists, values each area in two ways. The first is the level of preparation, so how close to European Union standards are our laws and institutions. The second is progress during the one – year period – the last 12 months. In this year’s report, the level of preparation has not dropped into any area and the Commission finds no going back anywhere.
He explained that the report praises developments in two aspects, the level of preparation, respectively, the approach of Kosovo’s laws and institutions to EU standards, as well as progress achieved over the year period.
Kurti stressed that better progress than in last year’s report has been praised in reforms in public administration, justice, freedom and security, free movement of capital, financial services, statistics, management of EU funds and freedom of expression.
Meanwhile, according to him, the level of preparation has been raised in the fight against organised crime.
Kurti also reiterated the requirement that Kosovo be submitted as soon as the questionnaire for EU membership application, saying the country deserves candidate status and the launch of membership negotiations.
