Security expert Jahe Balaj has said the FIT special unit’s commitment to arresting the suspect in the assassination of Arlinda Zekaj shows that the risk assessment has been high.
On show F. IVE, Balaj has praised the police’s work for arresting the suspect, stressing that its goal is for suspected persons to be caught alive and the danger to police officials is downplayed.
That’s why the FIT unit went. I’m sure this is it, and it left a message. So according to the media I’m going to kill you. Even we all know, and I know we have a very good unit, known in the region. Even the fact that FIT has entered, they will tell me, risk has been high. I also congratulate them on the successes he has made, that they are not late to apprehend the suspect, he has declared.
He has explained that Kosovo police have trained persons for negotiating and that this approach is used in different situations to calm the situation and enable arrest.
According to Balaj, negotiating has a key role in such cases, as police can consider some of the suspects’ demands without giving promises they cannot fulfil.
Balaj has stressed that the suspect should be treated in accordance with legal procedures and that the priority remains his arrest safely.
