Kosovo Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu has estimated that the country has lost two years due to political crises and delays in the institution’s constitutionalisation, stressing that following the election of President Justina Shiroka-Pula, conditions have been set for restoring institutional functionality.
In an interview for RTK, Haxhiu has said that political crises have left much work and reforms unre Addressed, while he has estimated that the deal on electing the president has avoided going to new elections.
The Republic of Kosovo has had two lost years if we take February of last year, when even extraordinary elections (in fact that time were fair parliamentary elections) following a government mandate at the time. And for ten months we failed to elect the Speaker of the Parliament, resistance, excuses from the opposition, Haxhiu has declared.
Speaking of electing the president, Haxhiu has said sending the country into elections because of this issue would be unwarranted.
I consider it to have been completely unwarranted, for no reason to take the country to elections because of the president. So I appreciate that we’ve finally reached a deal, although in the last few moments and not as if agreed in advance, but I think we arrived within the time we had to vote president, Mrs. Shiroka Pula, with a five-year term, she said.
Haxhiu has stressed that institutions already have clear responsibilities, also remembering the period he had exercised the office of president for six months.
You know, I was a lawyer for the president’s office for a six-month term and it was unclear, so we were addressing the Constitutional Court as to what the president or president would be if I was completed my mandate, Hadziu declared.
She has estimated that the Parliament’s decision to elect the president has avoided a new election process, citing the September 16th decision, which she has described as unfair.
Many jobs have remained unre Addressed, many reforms ahead of us, but I consider that we are now on a good track to address all the responsibilities we have before citizens, and Haxhiu has concluded.
