Annie why the Democratic League of Kosovo internal elections ( The LDK) are still far away, the debate over the party’s future leadership has already begun. The verbal clashes between Pristina’s chairman, Progress Rama, and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, over the post of party chairman, the party’s deputy, Uke Rugova, see them as part of domestic democracy, expressing understanding of the difficulties Obadiah faces in this position.
Rugova in an interview for Online Economy, has stressed that the LDK, has democratic tradition and that it is important that processes within the party develop in the spirit of democracy.
) The LDK has regular elections next year, in November next year, and until then we see which candidates will be and whether Mr. Abdixhiku will continue or there will be other candidates. The LDK is the first democratic party to be founded on these three sides, on ethnic Albanian lands, but also in the Balkan region, however democracy is always present in LDK, Rugova has declared.
Asked about statements about the LDK chairman’s race and the verbal clash between Rama and Lumir Abdixhik’s progress, as well as whether he would back one of them, Rugova has said he does not want to determine who will support him at the moment.
Yeah, this is part of the internal democracy in LDK, we wait for the election time, then we see who we support, he said.
Rugova has also been asked if he expects, in addition to the potential candidates that have been mentioned so far, to have other candidates for party leadership.
)Zaconally in LDK there are always candidates and counter-Candidates, even if any other candidate comes up, LDK deputy has said, for Online Economy.
Speaking of the job of current party chairman Lumir Abdixhiku, and the possibility that he will have his support for the continuation of the mandate, Rugova has said he understands the difficulty of the position Obadiah inherited, especially in view of the LDK’s history and its leadership by former President Ibrahim Rugova.
Yes, I have often repeated that for Mr. Abdixhiku it is not easy to inherit a position there, where it is as LDK leader behind the party, the party from Ibrahim Rugova’s presence, itself being aware of what pressure it is, even though I realize that Mr. Abdixhik, Chairman Abdixhiku, is not easy, he has declared.
Rugova has stressed the need for co-operation within the party, saying that beyond future developments and race for chairman, the goal should be to advance processes in the country’s interest.
But I always told him we should work together to postpone the process for the good of Kosovo, Rugova added.
Pristina chief Progress Rama during October has declared he is willing to take over the Democratic League of Kosovo.
Rama said he is ready for this commitment, stressing that there have been talks on issues like with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, as well as other party members.
I helped the Democratic League of Kosovo. After 12 years, the LDK is the first in the capital, and I’ve offered it, I’m saying, my help all the time and I continue to offer that help. Of course I’m interested in helping the Democratic League of Kosovo, and get me out of where it is. As always, I’ve been there for them, I’m there for them, I’ll be there for them, Rama said.
Meanwhile, LDK chairman Lumir Abdixhiku briefly reacted to Rama’s statements, saying it is a low level.
These are low-level discussions on Kosovo policy level, he said.
On July 30th, Abdixhiku was re-elected LDK chairman with 170 votes.
