US carried out new Iran attacks

The United States has carried out new attacks on Iran, targeting an antiaircraft defence device, American President Donald Trump has announced.

Speaking to reporters Friday, Trump said the US Army had destroyed the device within minutes.

They had set up some kind of antiaircraft equipment, while we destroyed it for about 15 minutes, perhaps even for five minutes, Trump said, describing the operation as a limited attack.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported two explosions on the island of laughter, in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime corridors for transporting oil to the world.

The new attacks follow a similar American operation Monday, when explosions were reported on the islands of laughter and Hengam, as well as in the coastal town of Bandar Abbas.

Despite the escalation of the situation, Trump said communications with Tehran are continuing.

We’re talking to Iran. We’re talking all the time, the American president declared, without giving any more details about the content of the negotiations.

The Iranian nuclear programme remains one of the main obstacles to reaching the agreement, as Washington wants this issue to be included in any conflict solution.

Meanwhile, the American Central Command ( CENTCOM has offered rewards of up to $20m for information that help identify Iran’s nuclear programme-related facilities, equipment and personnel.

In efforts to reduce tensions, Gulf countries are also involved. Qatar, which has previously brokered between Washington and Tehran, is developing diplomatic contacts with parties to avoid further escalation. /Telegraphy/
