Sweden has decided to restore internal border controls for a six-month period, following the assessment that there is a serious threat to public order and internal security.
The decision has been made known Thursday by the Swedish government, which has stressed that this assessment relates mainly to the heavy security situation following Ukraine’s full invasion of Russia.
According to the official announcement, the war in Ukraine has sparked hybrid threats, while hostile actors are moving and operating within the Schengen zone.
Border controls will take effect on November 12th 2026 and will continue until May 11th, 2027, under measures to strengthen internal security.
