Talks are held at a moment of concern for a possible escalation of the conflict after the US Muslim elections on 3 November.
US President Donald Trump has declared that Washington will not launch new attacks on Iran before the Muslim elections and that negotiations with Tehran have been productive, but has not ruled out the possibility of further military action after them.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aracchi said today that the talks, which are continuing and advancing, are aimed at continuing consultations with the mediators from Qatar.
He stressed that Iran is prepared for both defence and diplomacy, while adding that discussions on a two-day proposal continue but that a final conclusion has not yet been reached.
According to television Al Jazeera, Iranian negotiators and those from Qatar have drafted a proposal envisioning the reopening of the Hormuz Strait within two days of reaching a possible deal with Washington.
This sea route is of strategic importance for the global oil supply, while the eight-month conflict has caused significant disruptions in energy markets.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, ordered the armed forces to be prepared for any possible attack.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Trump has not yet made a decision on new attacks, but prefers diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
